Bultaco Montjuich Class 340 TSS Competition Client
May 2026
In the 70’s & 80’s Californian petrol heads invented a new racing class, so the myth suggests, half way between circuit road racing and dragster style Standing Quarter Mile. i.e. the Standing Mile termed the “Montjuich Class”. This required hybrid motorcycles half way between circuit racers and standing quarter types.
Under Jeff Duval’s overseeing stewardship, the scoot was handcrafted from scratch by John Parry of Cobra Frames with, for starters, 7/8th chromoly, 5” stretch, 37 degree rake frame for that Monterey Class allure.
On the mech side of things, a full race 350 SSR motor entirely rebuilt from scratch by two stroke guru Jean-Francois Vicente, with higher tech new or custom machined parts. Emphasis is on optimisation and usability instead of all out incontrollable power!
JETS’ Bultaco 350 SSR currently being restored to its former glory is a good example of that iconic but ephemeral “Montjuich Class”. More similar rebuilds in the pipeline…

All of which contributes to that elusive balance between Mediterranean eleganceand Californian mischief.

A study in restraint—if one accepts that restraint can occasionally include a racing stance and a hint of taunt!...
Ergonomics
A competition-derived riding position… subtly civilised for road use.Suitable for: seasoned riders, committed enthusiasts, and… optimists! Less suitable for chiropractors (though business may follow)
Photography
Entrusted to Max Howard a photographer capable of capturing not merely the machine… but the slightly unreasonable ideas that led to its existence.
Finish
Hi-pol metal polishers & finishers of Fareham & Chromers SilvaBronz of Beckworth for those crazy but hugely important final touches!
Bultaco Racing Team Paintwork by Image Custom Design (Camberley) — Tom, Steve & Mandy.
A masterful homage to the late Jeff McCann, whose influence still lingers wherever paint dares to be more than colour.
Execution: precise, confident, and entirely free of nostalgia’s heavier clichés.
